Why We Have Easter: A Reminder For You

5-year-old: What are we doing for Easter?

Me: Did you have something in mind?

5-year-old: I don’t know.

Me: Do you remember why we have Easter?

5-year-old: Umm…

Me: After Jesus died on the cross, they put Him in a tomb, which was like a cave with a big rock in front of it…

5-year-old: Oh yeah! But on Easter, Mary went back and He wasn’t there! She cried, but then angels came and said, “HE IS ALIVE!”

Me: Yes!

5-year-old: And did you know what? While we’re still on Earth, He’s making a room for us in heaven!

Me: That’s the best news!

5-year-old: I know!

She knew these things, she just needed a little reminder.

Friends, you know I don’t get into these things here very often. I believe that our God is a relational God and that is very personal for me. I hold that relationship close and pray that His love shines through me, but right now I need to tell you something.

It’s easy to get busy with life and forget about the important things. Well, we don’t really forget, do we? We just take them for granted and we stop paying attention. So we find ourselves seeking joy, happiness, peace, hope, and encouragement anywhere we can. And sometimes we need a little reminder.

That’s why I love pointing you all to laughter, sincerity, authenticity, and happiness every day. I hope you already know that you are wonderful and worthy of good things, but I remind you anyway because sometimes we stop paying attention. Sometimes we need a reminder.

So today let me remind you of this.

“For God so loved the world.” Allow me to paraphrase here. For God so loved YOU.

YOU are loved. The entirety of His love is more than I can fathom and I am continually overwhelmed by it. I’ve got tears in my eyes just thinking about it. I hope you know this. I hope you have forgotten, but just in case…

He paid the price. It is done. We are so incredibly loved. He is alive!

  1. I love this post. The important things in life are seemingly the easiest to forget. Developing our gratitude for our blessings EVERY DAY is what we must do. Thanks for the article Mandy!
